The extra cost of the alarm, IMHO, isn't worth it. BMWs already come equipped with passive anti-theft features that make the vehicles more difficult to drive off with (although tow-trucks still work great). All the alarm does it make noise--which very few people pay attention to. A BMW Tech told me his tip for this problem: Disconnect both cables from the battery and let the battery sit for 10 minutes. Then, with the battery still completely disconnected from the car, touch the positive and negative cables together. The sensor is inside a dry space. The sensor can be replaced without coolant loss or the need to drain coolant first. The sensor is not submerged.
